It starts with your consultation when our surgeons explain all the options and how they could work for you. Today’s blog explores some of the different choices you’ll have.
Saline vs. Silicone: Which Is Right for You?
Silicone or saline is usually the first decision to make with breast implants. Each offers distinct advantages; your choice will depend on your aesthetic goals, body type, and personal preferences.
- Saline Implants: Saline breast implants have an exterior “shell” made of silicone. They’re empty when your surgeon places them in your chest. Then, they inflate the implants with a sterile saltwater solution. This allows for on-the-spot size adjustments as needed. Saline implants require a smaller incision because they’re not filled until inside your chest. They feel firmer and less like real breast tissue versus silicone implants.
- Silicone Implants: These implants are made of cohesive gel. They closely duplicate the feel of natural breast tissue and provide a softer, highly realistic look. Silicone implants also offer a more natural teardrop shape, while saline implants are always round.
Implant Size Considerations
Implant size doesn’t have that much to do with cup size. Every woman’s body and needs are unique, so our surgeons don’t just recommend a cup size; they help you consider all the factors that can influence your ultimate result.
Several factors should be considered to ensure proportional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing results.
- Body Frame: Your natural chest width and shoulder size play a role in determining the best implant size for balance.
- Lifestyle: Athletes and highly active women may prefer smaller implants to maintain the movements that matter most in their daily lives.
- Future Considerations: Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and aging can all affect breast shape over time. Our surgeons generally recommend waiting until you’re finished building your family to have breast augmentation.
- Existing Breast Tissue: If you have minimal natural breast tissue, silicone implants may provide a more natural look and feel.
Many other factors can contribute to choosing the right implants. Our team takes the time to understand your needs and personal goals for breast augmentation to help you find the right implants.
