Dressing Your Body After Plastic Surgery

June 20 2015

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: you’re fully healed from your plastic surgery procedure and now you want to hit the mall for clothes to fit your new look. If you’re stumped about where to start, here are some tips to get you moving.

Shopping Tips Based on What You’ve Had Done

If you’ve had breast augmentation and you’re ready to start trying cute new looks for your top, V-neck shirts will show off a bit of cleavage while elongating your neck area, extending the long, lean look all the way down to your toes, especially when paired with pants or a skirt of the same color and shoes with heels. Wrap dresses with a low neckline will also accentuate your new chest, and even more so as the snug waist will accentuate an hourglass look.

For tummy tuck patients, a form-fitting top with loose pants or a maxi skirt can do wonders in displaying your new, flatter stomach. And since bikini shopping will be a much more pleasant experience, why not pick bottoms that ride low, to parade your tauter tummy on the beach? Bottoms with thicker straps, instead of strings, and in a bold color like white or black will further accentuate your new flat stomach.

After liposuction, leggings are a great way to show off your sleek new thighs, hips and tummy. Pair them with a long, form-fitting top of a contrasting color (think white on top, black on bottom) to further accentuate your tightened mid-section and bottom half.

Show Off or Keep Them Guessing?

Not everyone with a new, sleek body likes to show it off. Some who are more modest may want to keep the effects of plastic surgery subtle, while others may wish to test drive their new body with clothes that scream “I’m here!” Whichever you are, there is a way to go about it.

For the quieter types, you may wish to wear darker clothes worn on the area of the body you’ve had altered, and well-, but not tight-, fitting clothes. People may still notice that something is different about you, but they may just think you’ve lost weight. Wearing layers as well as scarves also works well, especially after breast augmentation and particularly at places like the office where you may not want to answer questions about your new body.

For those who want to show off their new curves unabashedly, now is the time to try out that pencil skirt or that sleeveless dress you’ve been eyeing. Though it may be wise to pace yourself by showing off one part of the body while being more demure in another. For example, tight skinny jeans that show off your flat new tummy after a tummy tuck, or your saddlebag-free thighs after liposuction may be showcased even more by contrasting it with a loose, tucked-in silk top or an off-the-shoulder cowl-neck sweater.
