The Fastest Growing Plastic Surgery Trends

May 13 2016

In a recent blog post, we took a look at the top surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures of 2015, according to the latest report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The report also revealed the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures and trends. In this blog post, our plastic surgery team takes a closer look at the latest trends to keep an eye on.

Beautiful Behinds Are “In”

Buttock procedures are in demand, and they led the pack among plastic surgery procedures showing considerable growth in 2015. Buttock augmentation with fat transfer rose 28 percent from 2014, while buttock lift and buttock implants each increased 36 percent. All in all, there is a buttock procedure performed every 30 minutes of every day (on average), according to ASPS. Fat transfer for the buttocks has become particularly popular in recent years because it uses a patient’s unwanted fat from one body area (e.g., back, thighs, abdomen) to add natural volume to the buttocks.

Soft Dermal Fillers for Less Wrinkles and Luscious Lips

Soft dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm are great alternatives for people seeking to eliminate facial wrinkles and lines without surgery. While this certainly contributed to the increase in soft dermal filler use in 2015 (up 6 percent from 2014), research shows the significant growth came from lip augmentation procedures. According to ASPS, lip augmentation accounted for nearly 9.2 million injection procedures in 2015, an increase of more than 1,000 percent since 2000. What’s behind this drastic increase? Plastic surgeons cite social media, selfies and celebrity influence as reasons why their patients seek a more attractive pout.

More Men Seeking Male Breast Reduction

For the first time ever, men accounted for more than 40 percent of aesthetic breast reduction surgeries, according to ASPS. More than 27,000 men underwent breast reduction surgery, a 5 percent increase from 2014. Overall, male breast reduction procedures have increased 35 percent since the start of the millennium.
